Sigrun Oprea is a native of South Africa, where she completed her studies. She received a Bachelors Degree in Music for Violin and Viola Performance and Teaching, as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Performance and Chamber Music from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg (WITS). She also received a Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of South Africa (UNISA). She has performed in various orchestras and chamber groups in South Africa, Germany and the US and has over the years collaborated with some prominent musicians, including Pavarotti, Yehudi Menuhin, Pinchas Zuckerman and Joshua Bell to name but a few. Currently she enjoys playing in the Salem String Quartet along side other ensembles in the area. She is also very involved with the Salem Keizer School District music program, doing sectional and private teaching in most middle and high schools on a daily basis. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her two boys and husband, skiing and traveling and is also an avid equestrian, competing in local dressage competitions.
